It's my last night in Paris and I'm saying goodbye to all that I've become accustomed to. This city elevated me and frustrated me, made me swoon and made me confused, had me on my knees weeping and had me literally breathless from amazement. I learned more about French history than I ever knew about American history. I was seduced by the language, pissed off by (some) of the people, left feeling 'meh' about the food. It was a love affair not meant to last but it was a damn good ride while it lasted.
Thanks to Miss K, I'm all packed and ready to go and it's only 7 pm. After sending her an email the flavor of crazy, she sensed the meltdown I was about to give into, hauled her fabulous ass to my apartment and took over. We were ruthless packers, utilizing every square centimeter (I'm still in Europe) that was available in my 4 suitcases. I decided to try to pack my beads because, let's face it, I don't trust La Poste to get them safely to my new home in NYC. They already lost 3 things from the USA. Why risk it?
Miss K came equipped with a scale, pink rubber gloves and a pair of skull earrings. In any other scenario, this would seem wildly kinky, but alas, perverts, it's not that kind of a story.
With the scale we weighed my bags which were each under the 23 kg limit (50 lbs); after some shuffling and purging, of course. With the gloves, she cleaned the apartment. And then she donned my ears with the super funky earrings. Voila! With everything finished, we can now go out to meet Karen and Jen for one last apero and dinner.
One last look at the Louvre. One last view of the Seine. One last walk across Pont Neuf, where I will place the lock. I have to remember to say "thank you" to my dear King Henry the IV whom I consulted with a few times in the last 7 months. Here he is:
He unified the Protestants and the Catholics and made many sacrifices to bring his people together. He was a wildly popular and sexy king. He kept me strong and told me to hang in there. He was a good listener, too.
I'm sure he would approve of my next move...
